Just curious as to what the difference is between the bottled water coolers and the plumbed in water coolers?

I am talking about those small coolers (with red and blue tap) with hot and cold water taps used in small offices. Do these coolers entire functionality of a fridge , such as compressors, evaporators etc. ? Or these (cooling part) work on a totally different principle of cooling ?

Well, it depends on the type of water cooler obviously. Some of them do have compressors, evaporators, etc. and some use Peltier devices.

If it makes any sort of humming noise, that’s probably the pump, pumping the refrigerant around in the system. If it’s one of those table-top ones which are obviously too small for a pump and all the rest of the stuff, it’s probably a Peltier device. These use semiconductors with the special property that when a DC voltage is applied across the chip, one side gets hot and the other side gets cold. They’re much less efficient than a conventional cooling system, so there’s a trade-off between their small size, lower noise, no moving parts, etc. and their efficiency.

Is there a lock you can buy for water coolers so your toddler doesn’t get water all of the floor I know they have them on the hot side but we nned one for the cold side.

I have a “baby gate” that closes off the entry to the kitchen. I can step right over it, but toddlers can’t. The lock solution would be a little less convenient when you needed to get water.

Question by patkake77: How do you cover up water coolers for a dinner party?

I have a couple of 5 gallon igloo water coolers that I’m using at an anniversary party to be held at a meeting place for about 60 to 65 people. I don’t like the look of the big orange coolers sitting on the tables. I’m sure there is a way I can drape these to look a little more elegant without spending the money I don’t have for nicer, more expensive drink dispensers. Any Ideas?

Are they those cylindrical containers? You’ll probably have them at the ends of the tables, right? How about taking some corrugated paper from the craft store and wrapping it around the tubs as best you can>>then cut a round piece to cover the top to tape over. (Not sure…but the paper may come in colors). But even so, you can then decorate it with flower garlands taped around, starting from the top–or start from top center and have garlands drape down all around it.

Another idea (more involved): is to cut slits every inch in rows in the corrugated paper and weave colored ribbons (or do black and cream) like you’re weaving a big placemat. Careful measurements will need to take place. Or simply tie ribbons (wide grosgrain ribbon) in the colors of the party around it and forget about cutting the slits. Be sure to work around the dispenser and let everyone know that it’s water .

EDIT: Or..you could put a bunch of flowers glued on the top cardboard and have ribbons hanging from it, or add a flower glued on the ribbons here and there.
